'les tilleuls'
'Les Tilleuls' is a lovingly restored, stone-built, "Perigourdine" -style property, nestling in a tranquil hamlet between the Lot and the Dordogne. Built round a central courtyard, it sits in 1.5 acres of grounds and has stunning, panoramic views of the surrounding French countryside. Close by are the picturesque local villages of Campagnac-les-Quercy, Cazals, Marminiac and Salviac, whilst the world-famous "beauty spots" of the Dordogne and the Lot, including Beynac, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Rocamadour and Sarlat, are all within easy driving distance.
'Les Tilleuls' is full of character - thoughtfully renovated and comfortably decorated in an easy, informal style, creating a sense of harmony, both inside and out. It is a perfect fusion of the beauty of the old combined with the convenience of the new.
As with all ancient buildings, every room is different. With beamed ceilings throughout, the main house has a beautiful drawing room where, in the cooler months, you will enjoy cocktails by the huge, log-burning fire, followed by leisurely candle-lit dinners.
On the mezzanine, with magnificent views over the outdoor pool to the rolling hills beyond, there is a well-stocked library - a perfect place to relax with a good book or perhaps play a game of backgammon, cards or chess. There is also a quiet sitting area on the ground floor, overlooking the central courtyard.
With doors opening on to both the courtyard and the south-west facing terrace, the delightful, spacious kitchen is at the very heart of the house. Here, guests are encouraged to help themselves at any time to tea, coffee and drinks. When the weather precludes outdoor eating, breakfasts and lunches are served in this warm, welcoming room.
There are four twin-bedded / double guest bedrooms, each with their own attractive and unique style. Two of the bedrooms are located in the main house, with the other two situated across the courtyard in the charming, mellow-stone grange. All bedrooms are centrally heated with beautifully appointed en suite facilities.
Pilates classes are held in a bright, fully-equipped studio in the grange. With stunning views of the pool, the picturesque pigeonnier and the surrounding countryside, every effort has been made to create the ideal environment in which to exercise.
Outside there are no formal gardens, just ample places to sit and relax, read, sketch, listen to music – on your own or with others. Or you can simply laze by the pool and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that is 'Les Tilleuls'.
During the warmer months, much time is spent outdoors. The day starts with breakfast in the sun-lit courtyard, perhaps after an early-morning swim. At noon, the glorious linden tree (le tilleul!) lends dappled shade under which to savour leisurely lunches. Then, at the end of the day, you can enjoy aperitifs with friends on the terrace whilst watching the sun go down and anticipating dinner, lovingly prepared with fresh local produce and served with carefully selected local wines.
